In a recent poll we conducted under the Twisted Mondays segment on LinkedIn, we asked people about their reasons to look for a change in job. Quite a few said they will change their current jobs for better work and rewarding pay. Some picked a pay hike. Though the majority of people opted for the option — Work + Culture + People.

That says a lot about how people are focusing on their priorities.

What matters now

With the new norm becoming the new world we now live in, the priorities are changing drastically. People view their career choices differently today. The way people work has changed.

We aren’t just working at home now, we are at home, during a crisis, trying to work. There are a lot of employees who are young parents. The pressure of remote-schooling their kids along with a 9-to-5 job is tremendous. Many of these employees tend to elderly people, COVID patients. These employees should be offered flexible work hours, so the productivity remains stable, and hopefully reduce the burn-out possibilities.

The new world has made companies transition towards a more diverse, inclusive workforce. Companies need flexible policies, work hours, and collaboration tools to smoother communication.

Communication in times of Remote Work

The future of work is collaborative. And online collaboration tools are becoming essential to the everyday survival of the employees. Given the choice majority of employees wish to work in either a hybrid or remote way. Considering these workspace transformations, communication platforms become irreplaceable for efficient, productive work.

All in all, this is the time to reinvent the workplace. And to do that, we need to talk about mental health at work.

The current situation can very well take a toll on the mental health of employees. Organizations need to provide systems at work that will support and assist employees overcome these challenges.

Establishing Trust among each other is crucial to make remote work successful. Unnecessary micro-management, lack of liberty to take decisions, and most importantly absence of Trust among co-workers can result in a toxic environment affecting performance acutely.

Here are some of the examples of a few tips that can help tilt the balance of mental health towards positive.

  • Employees and individual teams to have more autonomy in their work
  • Adjusting to the remote work mindset
  • Aligning everyone with the company’s goals emphatically
  • Pre-empt and plan in advance for smoother deliveries
  • Leaders investing in processes to replace physical office space, collaboration tools, changes in policies, etc.

What is your organization working towards making this a smoother ride for employees? Do share your thoughts and inputs in the comments.
